Every body is 18/8 (304) stainless steel, uncoated inside. Every part goes in the dishwasher. All three are independently tested for lead under the US CPSIA. The reports are dated July 22, 2026 and free to download on our certificates page.

Which lunch box is best for taking to work?

The 40 oz box, with both dividers in.

It is the size a normal adult lunch actually needs. A main, a side, and something for later. The two steel dividers slide out. One day it is three compartments, the next it is one deep tray for pasta.

Outside it measures 7.48 × 5.51 × 2.36 in. That still fits a work bag next to a laptop.

What sells it is not the steel. It is the seal. Ours is a silicone ring in a groove. That is why the box survives a commute lying on its side.

What if I want a smaller box?

Then the 27 oz, at 6.69 × 4.72 × 2.36 in.

It is the school-lunch size. Adults pick it for snacks, fruit and a second breakfast. Same steel, same seal, same two dividers. Just less of it.

It slips into a bag that already holds a bottle.

What if I meal prep on Sunday?

The 47 oz, at 8.26 × 6.26 × 2.36 in.

This one takes a main plus two sides without pressing everything flat. Rice, roasted vegetables, a protein. The dressing still stays in its own corner.

It is oven-safe too, so a tray can go straight in.

Never the microwave, though. Steel and microwaves do not get along, and that goes for every steel box.

Every box ships with two dividers, a spare seal and a cotton transport bag.

What about salads and grain bowls?

A rectangular box flattens a salad. A round bowl does not.

That is the whole argument for the stainless steel salad bowl with lid. It is deep instead of wide, so leaves stay leaves.

What about hot lunch?

Here is the honest answer. None of the boxes above are insulated.

They are single-wall steel, and a hot meal in one of them is lukewarm by noon.

For warm food you want the insulated food jar. It holds 14 hours hot and 19 hours cold, with no preheating. That number rests on one habit. Rinse it hot, fill it full, keep it closed.

A half-full jar cools faster, whatever the label says.

How much can you trust the seal?

100% leak-proof. That is the claim, and the seal is where it is earned.

It is a silicone ring in a groove, and the two clip locks press it flat. Yogurt, dressing, curry, chili. The box holds them, including in a bag carried sideways.

One note on what travels well, which is a different question. Thick sauces sit still. Clear soup sloshes, so it rides better upright, and better still in the food jar that screws shut.

Two things matter more here than any leak claim. The seal is a wear part, and you buy the seal instead of a new box. And take it out of the lid once a week, so the groove dries fully.

Which one should you actually buy?

If you take one meal to a desk: the 40 oz lunch box.

If you prep on Sunday for the week: the 47 oz.

If lunch is mostly salad: the 60 oz bowl.

Questions people ask before buying

What size lunch box do adults need?

For most adults, 40 oz. That is a main course plus a side, which is what a normal lunch looks like. Go up to 47 oz if you prep with two sides. Go down to 27 oz if you mostly pack snacks and fruit.

Are stainless steel lunch boxes worth it?

They are, if you keep them for years. That is the point of steel. It does not stain, does not hold smells and does not go brittle. It costs more upfront, and it stays out of the microwave. The full argument sits in our pros and cons article.

Is there an insulated stainless steel lunch box?

Not in our range, and not in most. Our lunch boxes are single-wall and not insulated. The insulated container is the food jar: 14 hours hot, 19 hours cold, no preheating. Rinse it hot, fill it full, keep it closed.

Can I get a lunch box engraved?

Yes. Two fonts, and four positions on the lunch box. Four positions are the lunch box only. Everything else has one fixed spot. Order by 1 PM PT and we engrave it the same day, in our own facility in CA. One thing to know before you configure: engraved items cannot be returned.
